Mission Statement:
The Union Park Neighborhood Association exists
to preserve and strengthen the quality of the Union Park neighborhood,
promote the area as desirable for both individual and family living,
foster neighborhood fellowship, and serve as a vehicle by which
neighborhood problems are resolved and neighborhood goals are achieved.
DES MOINES, IOWA, UNION PARK NEIGHBORHOOD
BOUNDARIES ARE HULL AVENUE ON THE NORTH, THE RAILROAD TRACKS
ON THE EAST, WASHINGTON ON THE SOUTH, AND THE RIVER AND SECOND
AVENUE ON THE WEST.
What Is UPNA?
The Union Park Neighborhood Association became a Charter Neighborhood
in 1994 with the City of Des Moines, Iowa, having developed and
implemented a master plan through the City of Des Moines Community
Development Department. UPNA is a grass roots volunteer organization
and is not a part of City Government. All people associated with
UPNA are volunteers, who participate because they want to see this
area continue to be a great place to live.
What does the Union Park Neighborhood
Association do?
- Speaks for the neighborhood on issues of preserving the quality
of life in the area.
- Awards seasonal Lawn-of-the-Week Awards.
- Supports enforcement of the municipal Appearance Code (Beautification
Ordinance).
- Helps prioritize neighborhood infrastructure improvements like
paving and curbs.
- Advocates maintenance, safety and preservation of Union Park.
- Promotes new projects like the Heritage
Carousel in Union Park.
